I thought a little history lesson is in order, detailing some of the major events that led to the 400+ member car club we all enjoy today :)
I'll try to keep this running.... and give credit where credit is due. if I miss or skip something, please let me know.... lots of new members, figured everyone should know how this site became what it is today :)
Oct 3, 2007 - Chris, a member of the US Army Stationed in Kansas City, and highly active on KCSubaru.com created the website - an alternative to the mundane RMIC, and worthy of our own Subaru Club here in the Utah area. Chris had intentions of moving back to Utah, but ended up getting diverted, and the site sat almost completely unused for 3 months, because he was never here in Utah to promote it.
January, 2008 - Ninefourteener (Matt), an Air Force guy and a highly active member of STLSubaru.com (St. Louis), got orders to Hill AFB, and after much practice setting up events in St. Louis area, decided to create a local SLC Subaru community. Shortly afterward, discovered this site, sitting empty and unused, joined up, and started promoting the hell out of it, created the original logo, and basically worked hard to spread the word with the help of several early members like wtr82 (Billy), Yellowsnow (Kevin), Timber (doug), K20Utah, and Steve.
Jan-March, 2008 - wtr82 and Timber were chosen to become moderators to help out running the site, based upon their extensive involvement spreading the word and building the site
April 5th, 2008 - The first SLCSubaru.com meet, a whopping 22 cars, met at Hooters, followed by a cruise. Custom, 1st edition slcsubaru.com stickers were made by Yellowsnow, and handed out, free of charge, to all attendees.
May 31st, 2008 - the 2nd official SLCSubaru.com meet/cruise ( I wasn't at this one, wanna tell me what happened)??
June 17th, 2008 - SLCSubaru reaches 100 members
July 19th, 2008 - the 3rd official SLCSubaru meet, only 12 cars, met at Arctic Circle burger joint + cruise through the mountains.
August, 2008, Drakien (Dann) creates the new SLCSubaru.com logo (based upon votes of club members), in preparation for T-shirt printing at the MM meet.
Sept, 2008 - The great CRASH of 2008 - all posts more than 3 months old accidentally got deleted. SLCSubaru largely had to "start over", but came back stronger, with lots of new ideas and initiatives.
Oct 2008, - Mark Miller Subaru of SLC hosts the 4th official SLCSubaru.com meet, gives out free T-shirts and several other door prizes, with a HUGE turnout of 93 cars, including both the Cobb and Rallysportdirect cars
Nov 2008 - Steve was chosen to be the next moderator, based upon his involvement printing business cards for the MM meet, updating the ROTM slides, and the creation of the new slcsubaru.com stickers.
Nov 15th, 2008 - SLCSubaru.com reaches 200 members
Nov 2008 - The first Ride of the month (ROTM) winner was announced (absolut_boost)
Dec, 2008 - SLCSubaru.com pitches in and donates toys for the child of a unfortunate member recently laid off, evicted from his home, and forced to move away - The day SLCSubaru.com changed from a "site", to a "Club" :)
Feb 7th, 2009 - The 5th official SLCSubaru meet, for the 3rd snowcross event at Miller motorsports park - DOMINATED by Subarus :)
Apr 17th, 2009 - SLCSubaru reaches 300 members
May 27th, 2009 - SLCSubaru reaches 400 members
June 20th, 2009 - The 2nd SLCSUBARU.com / Mark Miller Subaru mega-bash hosted by MM. An astounding 118 Subarus piled into the lot, endured the rain, scarfed down BBQ, donated 620 lbs. of non-perishable items to the Utah food bank, left with awesome T-shirts, and cruised together (50+ cars) up to Mirror lake.
July 17, 2009 - Drakien (Dann) was invited to join the Moderator team, based upon several voluntary contributions to the club, and his constant involvement with club decisions and improvements.
Aug 22, 2009 - 107 inactive member names were deleted due to a zero-post count, bumping the members down to 360. But, 360 ACTIVE members... the official 2009 SLCSUBARU "cleanup".
Sept 12, 2009 - 14 SLCSUBARU.com members make the club's presence known at the annual PEACH DAYS 900+car show in Brigham City. Member "xXLouLegsXx" takes home the award: "Best 80's to Present, Original and Modified".... Nice.
Sept 22, 2009 - Organized by relatively new member, "himynameisgreg", the first official "Tater Tot Tuesdays" event was organized, with a 90-day plan pre-planned ahead.
Sept 29th, 2009 - Steve voluntarily steps down from a moderator to a vendor due to family/personal issues, and we all thank him for the awesome support he's given the club. His contributions will be missed. As per Steve's suggestion, and the rest of the leadership's choice, Kentrik took over as the newest member of the moderator team!
Nov, 2009 - The SLCSubaru.com membership numbers once again exceed 500, so long-time members Bones and Pumpkyn were invited to join the moderator team to help out with all the increasing activity
Feb, 2010 - Steve gave up on stickers..... and re-joined the moderator team..... you'd think he would make up his mind by now :)
Feb 26th, 2010 - SLCSUBARU.COM reaches 650 members
March 6th, 2010 - Mark Miller invited slcsubaru to once again, host the new Southtowne grand opening event, and with only 30 days notice, a whopping 96 cars showed up to celebrate. Rallisportdirect showed up and gave away several RSD T-shirts, 2 Hoodies, and countless license covers, all free of charge. Mark Miller Subaru had the "Round 3" shirts printed featuring the custom design from our very own member "GF8". 434 lbs. of non-perishable food were collected for the needy, and the small but devoted rally members put on a scary display of automotive destruction in an abandoned dirt parking lot for all to enjoy :) GOOD TIMES!!
