STi pistons arent forged but the rods/crank are. They are cast and as you can see they blow. If STi had cast pistons it would be a very very stong motor.

at least re-hone the block. get it measured to see if it needs to get bored bigger or not. should be totally re-usable.

Yeah you should definitely have the all of the cylinders reworked. It doesn't take much to wreak havoc on something as precise as a modern engine...

^^why have all the cylinders reworked? Wasn't it just one piston that went out.

Yeah but then you have one cylinder with a larger bore, a new piston, and the possibility of metal fragments having bounced around within the crankcase and buggered up the other cylinders. You want your engine to be balanced. And you REALLY don't want pieces of metal, even tiny ones, in between pistons and cylinder walls... That's why its a good idea to tear the whole engine down and replace at least all of the pistons and machine the cylinders if you're going to be doing one anyways.

Yeah but that means that it broke in the cylinder and the space constraint held it together. Trust me, it's a good idea to do a complete tear down whenever a major component fails, at least if you want to maintain decent compression for more than 2k miles...
