The up pipe is safer than stock because it removes a cat that threatens to discintigrate and destroy your turbo, hence the lack of catted stock up pipes now. And stage 2 is perfectly safe, and with cobb is actually safer than stock. To put it short and sweet, your buddy is completely wrong...

hey thanks ive done my research and i knew he was wrong i just wanted to double check. better safe than sorry. also if i were to get a walbro pump and some injectors do you think a vf34 or even like to a vf39 turbo upgrade would be safe with stock internals? what do you think?
appreciate the feedback man. really helpful

Yeah a few guys are running the vf39 with a the ap tune from cobb and no problems at all. 914er has the 39 and I am sure he will chime in soon about how much he likes it and doesn't have any problems at all. :headspin:

Yeah you should be fine on stock internals. But start treading lightly with the tranny, as you are now introducing a lot more force and stress on it. And take it in steps, get used to stage 2 before you do the turbo, because those are fairly significant changes.

i love my vf39 so far so good. I was stage 2 for a a year plus before that and had no issues with the car at all. The biggest thing is just not to drive like an asshat and the car will be fine

If you've got the cash to upgrade the tranny, awesome. The most common upgrades are either PPG gears, or an STi 6MT swap. They end up costing around the same, it's just up to what you want to do with it.

You realize we are no longer dealing with sums of cash in the hundreds, but in the thousands now, right? Any transmission anything that would put you in a better spot than you are now is going to cost you a MINIMUM of 3 grand... My suggestion to you, is to do the stage 2 and then do A TON of research on fuel pumps, injectors, the VF-39, and stock transmission strength. And then, before the turbo, start to balance out your setup with brakes and suspension, because power means nothing if you can't stop or turn.

It just kind of sounds funny to hear some one tossing around the idea of upgrading the tranny like its just something else, a simple bolt on. If you are building the tranny, you're getting pretty damn serious.

So per my suggestions, you're to-do list should look something like this:
1-Up pipe/ DP/ AP ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!!
2- Sway Bars and endlinks, and springs and struts if you can afford them
3- Higher temp/ bite brake pads, maybe DOT4 fluid if you plan on tracking it, And maybe stainless braided lines
4- If you could't afford springs and struts with the sways/ endlinks, this is the time to do them
5- Start considering more power if you find it necessary.

Change it as you feel, but i think that will give you the most balanced setup where no one aspect of the car over does the others...

-1,000,000 for AP. Just get a tractrix and save $510. I'm sure their are plenty of guys on here that could flash ur car with a stg 2 map.

also one last thing just buy a 06 wrx up pipe on NASIOC. Aftermarket up pipes are overrated unless your making crazy power.

I have an 2004 cobb accessport version 1 I am selling for $300. It is married to my 04 wrx but I can unmarry it as soon as someone buys it. I was really happy with performance gains in my wrx I am just going back to stock so I can upgrade to an STi.
