Alright I know a lot of you guys/gals have them. What would you recommend? I am looking for something under $100, but for quality I might go more.

*I know that a lot of companies wont ship to Utah because of laws, but I can still get them. So anything is an option.

Why wouldn't they? Radar detectors are perfectly legal in Utah. It's laser jammers that cause problems.

I have an old POS Cobra that works when it wants to. It isn't too bad, but it was free, so I can't complain TOO much. Really, you want to look for either a high end Escort, or a Valentine1. Neither is cheap, but they are the only ones that most people consider worth spending money on. I recommend eBay in this case.

For a little more info, you might want to do a good amount of reading on THIS site:

i have a beltronics 955, but its not under 100 bucks

i would recomment cobra, beltronics, escort, and of course the valentine (who has that kind of money lol)

and as far as the illegal thing, as kentrik said they are not illegal
laser jammers ARE, but detectors aren't
the only place they are illegal is on military institutions such as HAFB

check out this site for reviews and such

I have a rocky mountain radar, has the jammed but it can be turned off, but it's more than $100.

I have an old whistler 1610 that blows fuses all the time.

Yeah I was looking at the rocky mountain radars. Is it worth what you paid?

Thanks for the links I learned a bit from them :D

This is what I see on some websites-
"Certain restrictions may apply in certain states – check with your local authorities. Not available in CA, MN, NE, OK, UT, VA or Washington D.C."

But that doesn't matter if need be I can ship to my sister in Vegas.

Well I really like it, and I'm sure the restriction is don't use the jammer. Which I don't leave that on very often, but I like it and think it was worth every penny. They shipped it to my house within days.

I would recommend the escort. my friend has one and we use it on our road trips and it works so much better than my cobra. Just my 2cents you get what you pay for... :)

Laser jamming is HIGHLY illegal in Utah. DO NOT DO IT.....

....that said....

Most laser jammers that are built into radar detectors don't work very well.

The idea of the laser is to point it at something flat and reflective (i.e. license plates) to bounce back and tell the speed. Unless your detector is mounted THAT low, it won't do much good with OMGLAZORS. Your best bet against that is to run something like the LIDATEK passive system's idea where you install a transceiver near your plates somewhere, and it picks up the laser hit. It will jam the laser for 5 seconds, and as soon as it starts to, it will blare out a quick siren inside your car then shut itself off for 30 min. The basis behind this idea is that if the gun gets scrambled, they'll just pull to read it again. The alert should give you enough response time to slow down to a legal speed.

just use the force my young apprentices. I've been speeding for 10 years and never got a speeding ticket. But I here the whistlers are pretty good. I usually just run from the cops if they try to pull me over, did that at least 5 times in KS in my bugeye -AWD FTMFW

Lol I use the force as it is. I have gotten 1 ticket in my 3-4 years of driving. I am almost never doing the speed limit. My family has a radar detector genetically in us. But when my "force" runs out, I want a back up. lol

I have been looking into the Beltronics Vector 955. I found a place that it will cost me $150 + Shipping.

I have a beltronics RX65 which Radar Roy (from radarbusters.com) recommended as his top radar detector for like a year or two. I havent been to the website lately but its saved my butt a lot. It was $350 tho. I know they are illegal in Virginia. Its the second sign you see when you enter the state. It goes "Welcome to Virginia" then "Radar Detectors are Illegal" and finally "Speed Enforced by Aircraft." I hate Virginia....
