I've found universal fmic made by mishimoto for like $200. take in mind its not the kit, just the front mount. i know i don't really need a front mount with my little TD04, but I want to go the route of an 18g or 20g sometime soon, and a bigger intercooler would be nice. anybody know anything about these? if they're decent and I can get the front mount piping for it, I might just do it. It could end up saving me like $500 or so.

Not that mishimoto makes bad parts...... but a "universal" FMIC?? I'd be awfully weary, especially considering many of the FMICs that are SUPPOSED to fit our cars still require trimming of the bumper. You're going to end up having to do a hackjob.

Plus, a FMIC on your stock turbo is actually going to make your car slower.

An STI TMIC is plenty sufficient for an 18G anyway. I'd spend your $$$ on a factory STI top mount.... perfect for your stock turbo, looks great under the hood, plenty sufficient for VF39s, VF34s, VF22s, 16gs, and 18gs. Should you ever decide to go with a 20G or larger later..... then just upgrade again to a FMIC, and you can get the same amount of $$$ for your STI TMIC as you paid for it as long as it's still clean.... they don't seem to be depreciating in value at all.

I agree with 914 on this one.. Not to mention the aps top mount and a 20g would be good as well..front mount=lots of lag for such a small turbo. That is just my 2cents on it.

But it is universal... aka wasn't designed for your application.. you want the smallest intercooler that will do the job and not get heat soak.. go to big and it is wasted energy.

ya, i'm hoping somebody comes out with an intercooler that isn't so huge. almost all of the front mounts for my car are ginormous.

I hear that the mishimoto radiators are complete ****. I really don't think i would trust a "universal" FMIC from anyone, let alone Mishi...
