So...... My wife got me a PS3 for my B-day..... finally ;)

I got it up and running... got the internet connected.

found out that my TV is nice, but a little older, so it takes a DVI cable, not the HDMI cable I bought..... so they make a HDMI to DVI cable...... but is it going to be better than just the 3 RCA plugs????

Not a techie at all... need advice.

Rented "Dirt2" from Blockbuster.

Still learning... whats next????

HDMI = 1080p gaming sexiness, I don't think RCA connections or getting the DVI to HDMI connector will go up that high. The only VISIBLE difference I've seen with the latest technology is between 720p and 1080p, anything in between isn't that noticeable.

Yes DVI is slightly better than RCA but still won't give you the resolution of an HDMI cable.

I'd put Gran Turismo 5 on your list when it gets released in March.

Woot! I would suggest Need for Speed Shift! :D

How is Dirt 2? I was going to rent it at blockbuster but I ended up getting "Call of Duty - World At War"

Honestly... I'm not crazy about Dirt2.

It's ok I guess..... but there is VERY Little customization of the cars. You win money... buy a new car.... and maybe win the rights to change the paint job.... thats about it.

Theres no variation really... just a race, then Ken Block or Dave Mirra says "Good job!"... then you just do another race.

Kinda boring.

So..... I figured out how to get the settings to accept the HDMI to DVI cable.... picture looks great (or as great as can be expected).... got the surround sound hooked up by adjusting all the settings in the PS3 (Had to do some research to figure it out).

..... and now I can't connect to the internet. WTF??? It'll find my network.... I enter the pin, and it says it cannot obtain IP address.

Does your ISP have to verify Mac Addresses?
Some times you have to call into your ISP and give them the Mac ID of the Game console so they can activate that on your account to allow it to receive an IP address.

I figured it out... it had something to do with my wireless router. My wife's laptop was having issues as well. I just restarted the router and everything worked fine.

So I've discovered that "some" games won't work when you output HDMI to DVI.... not sure why... is has something to do with the signal... I dunno

Devil May Cry 4, and Zombie Apocalyse... everything else worked fine.

Just picked up GTA 4 the other day... been up till like 3am 2 nights in a row :)
