The more Subarus I obtain, the more I find myself getting irritated when people use the wrong terminology for a certain car. I like Subaru history... it's actually pretty cool.

Plus.... the term "REX", when referring to a WRX almost sounds juvenile, and is generally incorporated into sentences with other words like "dope", "phat", "tyte", or "skillz", that generally end with the word "yo".

For example: "My phat REX is dope, and so are my tyte drivin skillz, yo"

The ACTUAL Subaru Rex, was introduced in Japan, as well as numerous other countries, in 1972, and production wasn't stopped until 1992 when the Vivio (also not available in the US) replaced it in 1993.

The Rex featured a 358 cc (That would be a 0.4 liter) rear-mounted, watercooled, two-cylinder, four-stroke engine, upgraded from the two stroke engine used by the 360 and R-2 models. In 1981, the Subaru Rex became front wheel drive, and the engine was enlarged to 665 cc in 1982.

Maybe I'm just old--LOL :)

i honestly dont see a problem with it....
rex is a lot faster to say than WRX, although ill just say "subie", "sti" or the model year reference, like "bugeye"
but if i do say something about a wrx, sometimes ill say wrx, sometimes ill say rex
but i dont speak like a retard when i say it like the example you have above heh

I'm on both sides of this one. I sometimes catch myself using "rex" to be honest, it reminds me of a dinosaur or something lol. Which is why i don't use it that often. Anyhow, those pics are sick. I would love to see one of those at a meet one day.

I usually use Rex when I'm around people who know a little about the Subaru. When I'm around a Subie-tard I will Use W-R-X and that is usually followed by "No it is not an STi"

"does yours have a turbo?"
"is it fast then?"
"why didnt you get a sti?"
"my civic can beat it"

its not even funny how many times people ask this. and its practically the same conversation every time haha. in fact the last person i can recall was a kid at smiths with a mugen civic. all i could think is "you paid 30,000 dollars for a civic.... umm.... why didnt YOU buy an sti??"
